Install on Mac
Both Apple Silicon (M1 and later) and Intel Macs are supported by the same download-and-click installer. No Homebrew and no admin password: it downloads a checksum-verified copy of Wine into its own folder and installs nothing system-wide. THUG2 is a Direct3D 9 game and Macs have no geometry shaders, so it ships a build of DXVK patched to work around that, and the game is GPU-accelerated, not a software-rendered slideshow. When you finish, THUG2 Violet Vandal Edition lives in your Applications folder and launches from Spotlight like any other app.
You bring the game.Revert is the installer and mods, not the game itself. You need to own Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 (PC) and have your own copy ready as a folder or a download link. Nothing licensed is bundled or fetched for you.
The whole install, start to finish. The written steps below mirror it.
What you need
- A Mac running a recent macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel).
- Your own THUG2 (PC) copy: a download link, or the game folder on disk.
- About 15 to 30 minutes, most of it unattended.
Step by step
Download the installer for your Mac
Open thug2vandal.com/install and, under Mac, download the installer for your chip: Apple Silicon (M1 and later) or Intel. It arrives as a .zip; unzip it to get Revert Installer.
https://thug2vandal.com/install
Let it through Gatekeeper
The first launch is blocked because the app is unsigned (“Apple could not verify…”). Open System Settings, search Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click Open Anyway, then confirm. (Right-clicking the app and choosing Open works too.) It is a warning about who we are, not what the app does.

Fill in the wizard
The installer opens in your browser. It asks where to install (the default is fine), your account password (used once for setup), and your THUG2 copy (Browse to the folder, or paste a link). Then press Install & build.

Install Xcode Command Line Tools if asked
A genuinely fresh Mac lacks Apple's Command Line Tools (its git is only a placeholder). If the installer says so, Apple's install dialog opens: click Install, let it finish, then reopen Revert Installer and run it again. This is a normal Apple system prompt.

Play
It downloads Wine, fetches your game, and builds the edition. When it finishes, “THUG2 Violet Vandal Edition” is in your Applications folder; launch it from there or from Spotlight. If the first launch shows the “cannot verify” note once more, clear it with a right-click → Open.

Controller
Pair an Xbox pad in XInput mode. macOS only exposes Microsoft-vendor pads to Wine, so other brands pair with macOS but stay invisible to the game; an Xbox controller is the reliable choice on a Mac. Cutscenes may show a mild judder on a 60Hz display; gameplay is smooth.
| Control | Action |
|---|---|
| Left stick | Skate / move |
| Right stick | Camera |
| A / B / X / Y | Ollie / Grab / Flip / Grind |
| LB + RB | Get off board / walk |
| LT / RT | Nollie / Switch |
| Start | Pause |
If something goes wrong
- Anything unclear
- revert doctor reports exactly what is present and what is next.
- App will not open past the verify dialog
- Use right-click then Open (not a double-click) the first time.
